ABOUT THIS ARTWORK:
Fibre artist Robyn Thomas has created this striking large scale artwork using a simple loom structure to employ a weave technique executed with the unexpected core material of VHS tape as her weaving fibre. This unusual material choice gives the finished work a subtle reflectiveness and visual intrigue. The artist's choice of the film 'Black Beauty' as her specific videotape material for this work was intentional, and is the source of the apt title given to the piece.
The artist employs books, pop culture magazines and VHS videotapes as sources for her works in a desire to use materials that tell a story. According to Thomas, she is ‘interested in exploring the historical relationship between weaving and the recording of stories, and how they are connected by the use of the first computer, the loom.’
This artwork is signed by the artist on the back, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
