ABOUT THIS ARTWORK:
This is a work from abstract artist Hana Moore’s ‘What Lies Beneath’ series of paper blocks. The artist creates each piece in this series by painstakingly glueing approximately 50 layers of archival coloured paper to a base of multi-layered high-grade birch plywood. The plywood at the bottom of each piece not only acts as a stable base but is also intended as a reference to the evolution of wood to make paper. Once blocks are thoroughly dry, they are 3-D carved to reveal ‘what lies beneath’ and expose intriguing layered rings of colour. Finished works have a ½” thick mounting block affixed to the back that creates a floating effect once the artwork is installed.
