Though best known for his evocative image transfer works on wood panel fine art photographer Patrick Lajoie’s multi-faceted practice also encompasses experimental and abstract photography. His curiosity and enthusiasm for the medium continually drive him to stretch the limits of photography and its presentation. For his latest abstract series, he created unique custom-made mechanisms that enable him to spin and otherwise manipulate his camera and the way it is able to capture light. Beyond exploring themes of color and light his primary objective is to evoke emotions sparked by nostalgia and remembrance. Through his image transfer works he aims to achieve this with travel documentary imagery that is infused with warmth in both hue and texture, created by the golden cast of the wood as well as the delicate wood grain apparent beneath paler areas of pigment.
